Both Kara and Evi unknowingly suffered from copper toxicity; a copper overload that in their cases was caused by the copper IUD.

It can also be caused by taking the pill, drinking water from copper pipelines, eating to much large fish (such as tuna or salmon), copper also increases during and after pregnancy.
